6.8% Market Growth and 27% Surge in Woody Scents: Data from Our Factory Floor (2026 Q1)
Forecasts are useful. But actual order data from a running factory tells you what buyers are really paying for.
We analyzed our Q1 2026 orders – 128,000 units across 31 clients – and compared them to Q1 2025. Here is what the numbers show, and what they mean for your 2026 product lineup.
Market Context: 6.8% CAGR 2024–2030
According to industry reports, the global scented candle market will grow from $5.2 billion to $8.6 billion by 2030. Our factory orders grew 18% year-over-year in 2025, outpacing the market thanks to gains in private label.
Top 3 Fragrance Categories in Q1 2026
Woody scents – including cedar, sandalwood, oud, and palo santo – led with 34% of orders, a sharp increase of 27% compared to Q1 2025.
Fresh and clean scents – cotton, linen, ocean, rain – followed at 28% of orders, up 15% year-over-year.
Gourmand fragrances – vanilla, caramel, coffee – made up 22% of orders, a modest 5% increase.
Floral declined from 20% to 14%, the largest drop among all categories. Buyers are moving away from "perfumy" scents toward more neutral, unisex profiles.
Seasonal Peak Concentration: Q4 = 40% of Annual Orders
We ship 40% of total annual volume between October and December. If you want candles on shelves for Black Friday, we need your purchase order by August 15. For custom fragrances, move that deadline to July 1.
Container Trend: Concrete and Terrazzo Up 60%
Glass remains dominant at 71% of orders. However, concrete and terrazzo vessels grew from 8% to 13% of our order book. These materials command a premium of $0.80 to $1.50 per unit at wholesale. Amber glass is declining in popularity, while clear and matte black glass are gaining ground.
What Buyers Are Rejecting
We have observed three clear rejection trends. Paraffin-only candles are down 22% in buyer requests. Unlabeled fragrance allergens have led to customs seizures for some importers. Lead wicks – already banned – are still seen from low-cost suppliers, but informed buyers are avoiding them entirely.
Projection for Q3–Q4 2026
Based on our forward orders and current buyer inquiries, we project three key shifts. Woody scents will reach approximately 40% of the fragrance mix by Q4. Travel tins (50 to 80 grams) are the fastest-growing format for entry-level gift sets. EU buyers are increasingly requiring full CLP compliance and plastic‑free packaging.
How to Use This Data
If you are developing a fall or winter 2026 collection, prioritize woody and clean scents. Test concrete or terrazzo vessels for higher perceived value. And plan your production slot early – we are already 70% booked for September delivery.
