Brand licensing has emerged as a powerful growth strategy in the candle and home fragrance industry, with major intellectual property owners partnering with manufacturers to reach new audiences. In 2025, Dalian Talent Group (DTG), a designer, manufacturer, and distributor of branded and private label candles, became a key Disney candle and fragrance partner in EMEA. DTG signed a European distribution agreement for a brand-new Disney candle and home fragrance collection with wholesale gift supplier Enesco. The collection covers DTG's entire 70-strong Disney candle range across five franchises: Disney Princesses, Disney Villains, Disney Mickey and Friends, Disney "Lilo & Stitch," and Disney Winnie-the-Pooh.
The partnership leverages Disney's position as the No. 1 licensor in License Global's Top Global Licensors 2025 ranking. DTG CEO Hamish Morjaria noted: "We were actively looking for strategic partners for our new Disney collection, who align with our strategy and retail base". The collection aims to "ignite senses and elevate spaces across the world" while creating "a new wave of nostalgia amongst Disney fans".
DTG has been aggressive in its licensing strategy. The company secured a landmark three-year Hello Kitty and Friends licensing deal across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, with products launching in July 2025 in major retailers including Miniso. It also signed a five-year partnership with French Connection to supply its physical and online stores with licensed candles and home fragrances.
The licensing trend extends beyond character brands. Elton John launched a second licensed home fragrance collection through his ongoing partnership with Slatkin + Co and QVC in April 2025. These collaborations demonstrate the power of brand associations in driving consumer interest and purchasing intent.
For candle manufacturers, brand licensing offers a pathway to rapid market expansion and consumer reach. Licensing agreements provide access to established brand equity, loyal fan bases, and retail relationships. However, they also require manufacturing excellence, quality consistency, and the ability to meet brand owners' standards. Manufacturers that can combine technical capability with creative partnership will be well-positioned to capture the growing licensed candle segment.
